FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ELIGIBILITY

Why does an athlete need 214/510 transfer paperwork if he/she attended a different school but didn't play a sport in the previous 12 months?
All transfers must be documented and a determination needs to be made as to the level of sport for which the student is eligible. The new school uses the transfer paperwork to confirm whether or not the student participated in any sport at the previous school. ATHLETES SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING UNTIL PAPERWORK HAS BEEN FILED, A DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE, AND A CLEARANCE SHEET IS RECEIVED BY THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. The penalty for playing an athlete before clearance is received is forfeiture of all games that athlete participated in.

Do CAP students have automatic varsity eligibility at the CAP receiver school?
NO. A determination must be made regarding the student's varsity eligibility at the CAP sending school. The 214/510 paperwork must be filed by the receiving school to make this determination. If the answer is yes, the student then has varsity eligibility at the CAP receiver school.

  • GAMES

Can a City Section practice game be held as a Southern Section scrimmage game?
NO. City Section does not allow scrimmages and the Southern Section does not allow scrimmages to be played as practice games. By definition, in a scrimmage no score is kept and officials cannot be paid.

With the new Wilson ball contract, do my teams, in the sports involved, have to use those balls during league play?
NO. In the sports of football, basketball, baseball, and softball, the Wilson balls MUST BE USED IN ALL ROUNDS OF THE PLAYOFFS. If your team makes it to the playoffs, the balls will be provided to you. Many coashes want to use the same brand of ball for league play as will be used in the playoffs, but it is not mandatory.

    PLAYOFFS

Do I still send bus orders to the Athletics Office for the playoffs?
NO, because of the quick turn around, bus orders can be faxed directly to transportation. It is unlikely that you would have two teams going to the same site at the same time for a playoff game, anyway.

    TOURNAMENTS

Why is a F/S baseball tournament recorded as a JV tournament?
The City Section does not recognize a F/S baseball level, therefore those tournaments are recorded as though they were JV tournaments.

What do I do if I am called late for a tournament?
Get a statement from the Tournament Director describing the circumstances of why you were called late. Submit 1) your Application to Participate, 2) the Tournament Director's statement, and 3) your statement of the situation. You will be put on the late list, and the application and statements will be forwarded to the Rules Committee. The Rules Committee will decide whether or not to waive the late application penalty. If they do not waive the penalty, it will be enforced in the following season.
