A renewed grant provided by the LA84 Foundation allows CIF Los Angeles City Section high school coaches in need of certification to take the online course LA84 Foundation’s CIF Coaching Orientation for less than half the standard price. Developed and delivered by Human Kinetics Coach Education in conjunction with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), the course is recognized and accepted by the CIF and the California Department of Education as part of the California coaching education requirements.

For each $38.00 online course, LA84 Foundation is contributing $20.00, lowering the price a coach pays to $18.00. The offer is extended to the first 400 CIF Los Angeles City Section coaches who enroll in the course in school year 2014-15.

“The partnership with LA84 Foundation and Human Kinetics Coach Education allows us to train and equip coaches with the knowledge and resources they need to provide the best possible high school sport experience for our student-athletes,” said John Aguirre, Commissioner, CIF Los Angeles City Section. “We’re grateful once again to LA84 Foundation for making the funds available to have our coaches obtain the training they need at a reduced price.”

“We are pleased to deliver the CIF Coaching Orientation course to first-time coaches in the CIF Los Angeles City Section,” said Jerry ReederAssistant Director, Human Kinetics Coach Education. “The online course provides high-quality, practical training featuring interactive exercises, video clips, and real-world scenarios that are focused on the core principles of coaching.”

The LA84 Foundation’s CIF Coaching Orientation online course brings together material from the Human Kinetics Coach Education courses Coaching Principles, Sport First Aid, and Coaching Technical and Tactical Skills, and includes an entire unit covering CIF-specific information on policies, procedures, rules, and reporting. The average coach will complete the course in four to six hours. The course concludes with two online tests, one for the CIF Coaching Orientation course and one for the CIF-specific content. Coaches receive results immediately after submitting their tests.

The 2014-15 school year marks the fourth year running that LA84 Foundation has underwritten the cost of the CIF Coaching Orientation online course in part for CIF Los Angeles City Section coaches.
