NFLPA Super Seminar on College Recruiting at Cal State Dominguez Hills

California State University of Dominguez Hills will be hosting a free college recruiting “Super Seminar” for high school and middle school athletes, their parents, high school coaches and counselors on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.

In addition to attending the seminar, attendees may be provided free tickets to attend the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl scheduled for 1 p.m. at the StubHub Center.

The high school which represents the most “school spirit” in the form of athletes who attend the Super Seminar in their school’s team uniform jersey, will receive a $1,000 grant from the NFLPA for that schools general athletic fund.

The NFLPA Super Seminar is provided free of charge through a joint partnership between the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), and the 501(c)3 nonprofit Recruiting Education Foundation, Inc., operators of the FreeRecruitingWebinar.org initiative.

“There is a lot of misinformation concerning recruiting, particularly regarding academic eligibility,” said NFLPA ‎Senior Director of Player Affairs and Development Jason Belser. “Given the dramatic NCAA academic rule changes that are going to impact the class of 2016, the process for academic preparedness needs to start now.  Our NFLPA Super Seminar on January 17 will serve as a solid first step for any student-athlete with an interest in playing sports at the college level.”

“Students and parents need to become better educated about dramatic increases to NCAA academic eligibility standards,” CIF LA City Section Commissioner John Aguirre added. “Today's generation of high school athletes are also being scrutinized under a microscope like never before. The information the NFLPA Super Seminar will provide on January 17 will greatly assist today's young athletes as they navigate through these uncharted waters.”

At the seminar, NFLPA representatives will discuss the business of football, including how to become an informed consumer and decision-maker and how to ensure players make successful academic and athletic transition from high school to college.

Among the many important topics covered will be:

Parents’ roles in the process

Scholarship myths and facts

NAIA and JUCO education

Evaluating scholarship details

Negotiate/Cooperative Education

Dangers of social networking/cell phones

Saving for college

National Letter of Intent
