State CIF Spirit of Sport Award Winners

CIF ANNOUNCES 2013-14 SPIRIT OF SPORT AWARD WINNERS

SACRAMENTO — Aaliyah Douglas (Oakland Technical High School), Dominiko Villa (Morse High School, San Diego) – Fall 2013; Paulina Hernández (Nuview Bridge Early College High School), Elijah Nora (Sierra High School, Tollhouse) – Winter 2014; Brianna Peralta (Woodrow Wilson Classical High School, Long Beach) and Mitchell Young (Sir Francis Drake High School, San Anselmo) – Spring 2014, were named the 2013-14 recipients of the prestigious CIF Spirit of Sport Award. The six statewide winners will receive an award, $2,000 and be recognized at the year-end CIF Federated Council dinner on May 2, in Los Angeles.
The CIF Spirit of Sport Award recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated the 16 principles of Pursuing Victory with Honorsm, are active in school and community service and exhibit leadership qualities. The principles of Pursuing Victory with Honorsm are the operating principles of the CIF and have been adopted by the 1,540 member high schools throughout the state. Additionally, new this school year, the CIF will select a boy and girl Section winner from all 2013-14 submitted applications to receive a $1,000 scholarship (listed below).
“There are many wonderful instances of sportsmanship throughout the state from our more than 775,000 student-athletes and these recipients have exemplified the Spirit of Sport both on and off the playing field,” said CIF Executive Director Roger L. Blake. “These students have demonstrated and understand that a positive attitude and teamwork is what education based athletics reinforces to all of our students across California.”
